Edia Learning

Edia is a math platform that guarantees better scores on state exams. We work with 85 school districts (and counting!) to improve student outcomes, and have delivered positive outcomes for all of them.

As the company's sole designer, I design our student, teacher, administrator products and support the design needs of our sales and marketing teams.

When schools shut down for COVID, students missed an entire year of math.

The thing is, you can't just skip a year of math and move onto the next. You need to learn how to add and subtract before you can solve an equation. As a result, 2022 was the biggest drop in US test scores in 50 years*. At Lee County, a school district we work with, math scores dropped by -44%.

Even in 2024, schools are still struggling to recover from COVID.

* Reported by the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP).

But using Edia, schools recover and exceed their pre-pandemic test scores.

Hillside Public Schools in New Jersey, a school district with 9% of their students passing state assessments, saw that number rise to 17% within 6 months of piloting Edia. Just 1 in 10 of their English Language Learners passed state assessments. After using Edia, all of them did.

In Texas, the average growth on 2023's end of year exams was -2%. Celina, one of our partner districts, saw +23% growth. The principal told us he was worried the state would think he was lying when reporting the numbers.

On average, districts that use Edia go from +2% growth in test scores to +12-15% in just one year.

Edia gives teachers time and data.

Homework, in theory, gives students practice and teachers data on which students need help. But the reality is that students cheat because they get no feedback, and grading homework takes valuable time from other things that teachers need to do.

Edia automates homework for teachers: the entire process of creating, grading, and analyzing results. Teachers save hours on grading, and see data on which students need more help.

Students get immediate feedback and can fix mistakes as they happen. They're not punished for mistakes, which removes most of the incentive to cheat.

33+ school districts depend on Edia.

As of 2024, 33 school districts have contracts with Edia to improve math scores. Our team runs trainings and continuous support to make sure teachers can rely on Edia to do their job.

As a product designer, I work closely with our customer success team to fix issues and continually evolve the product to meet the needs of teachers and students. I say this with full sincerity: it gives me energy every day to know that my work is directly impacting the future of each student's math education.

From day 1, the founders of Edia understood the importance of great design. And I'm proud that my work is a clear differentiator in a crowded market.

Teachers frequently write that they love how clean and simple the product is. Given the hundreds of other things that they have to juggle and learn, Edia's simplicity is essential to quick adoption and minimal training. The clean design extends to the student side as well, which is essential as all the data and analytics depend on students being able to show their work effortlessly on the computer.

The next step for me and Edia is to continue building our design culture. In the same way that Stripe brought highly considered design to an unexpected industry, I hope Edia can do the same for EdTech.
